He received his MSc degree in Physics and Ph.D. degree in Physics (summa cum laude) from the University of Valencia, Spain, in 1986 and 1990, respectively. He has taught applied physics for engineering students since 1986. In 1996 he became Full Professor of Applied Physics at the University of Alicante. He is mainly interested in holography, holographic recording materials, holographic optical elements, optical processing, nonlinear oscillations and the teaching of physics and engineering. In these areas he has published more than 270 technical papers in journals and presented more than 300 papers in scientific conferences and congresses. Between 1993 and 2007 he was the head of the Department of Physics, Systems Engineering and Signal Theory at the University of Alicante, Spain, and in 2009 was appointed head of the Research Institute of Physics Applied to Sciences and Technologies at the same university. He is a member of the Board of Editors of the International Journal of Engineering Education, Advances in Optical Technologies and the International Journal of Optics. He is a member of the Spanish Optical Society (SEDOPTICA), Royal Spanish Society of Physics (RSEF), and the European Optical Society (EOS). In 2011 he was elected Senior Member of the the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE) and the Optical Society of America (OSA). Since 2016 he is Fellow of the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE). In 2016 he awarded the Teaching and Dissemination of Physics within University Education prize, the annual award is given by the Spanish Royal Society of Physics (RSEF) and BBVA Bank Foundation (FBBVA) for significant commitment to education and contributions to the dissemination of physics.
