SPIE Name and Statement of Purpose:
SPIE has adopted a new name, logo, and Statement of Purpose to better reflect the Society's interdisciplinary approach to supporting the science and application of light.
- The Society's new name is SPIE, which is no longer an acronym.
- The DBA (Doing Business As) "The International Society for Optical Engineering" has been retired.
- Board approved Statement of Purpose: "SPIE is an international society advancing an interdisciplinary approach to the science and application of light."
- The legal name remains The Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE); however, it is used only for legal purposes.
Placement Guidelines
SPIE logos should be placed with generous white space around it.
For the SPIE Corporate logo, the empty or white space should be equal to the height of the "s" in the SPIE Brandmark.
Color Guidelines
SPIE logos can be resized but the proportions or colors must not be changed.
Terms of Use
SPIE images may be used for editorial purposes in public media only. They may not be used for advertising, business or personal communication. SPIE logos are registered trademarks of SPIE, must appear with the appropriate register marks, and may not be altered in any manner. Copying of images for further distribution or commercial use is prohibited without the express written consent of SPIE, which also reserves the right to withdraw permission to reproduce copyright material.
