Fritglass-Caps lead-free. Until only recently, there was no alternative to using lead in the area of fritglass caps, that are used in lasers and diodes for data communication. By R&D as well as significant changes in processing, SCHOTT has found a way to subsitute lead by Bismuth, a completely harmless substance. This complies with the EU-driven Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) guideline that does not allow restricts the use of cadmium, lead, mercury and other heavy metals in certain applications.
