Imaging ultrafast carrier and coherent phonon dynamics in black phosphorus with pump-probe microscopy (Invited Paper)

18 August 2024 • 10:55 AM - 11:20 AM PDT | Conv. Ctr. Room 11B

Abstract

Black phosphorous (BP) is a unique 2D semiconductor material that attracts growing research interest in recent years. We have applied femtosecond pump-probe microscopy to study the layer-dependent ultrafast dynamics in few-layer BP. We observed bandgap renormalization associated with photoexcitation, as well as coherent acoustic phonons with clear dependences on thickness, polarization, and high-pressure induced phase transitions. Our studies may provide insights into the electro-optical and microelectromechanical properties of BP.

Dr. Minbiao Ji received B.S. degree in Physics at Peking University, and his Ph.D degree in Physics at Stanford University. Afterwards, he joined the research group of Prof. Sunney Xie at Harvard University as a postdoctoral research fellow, working on coherent Raman scattering microscopy. Minbiao Ji is currently a Professor in the Department of Physics at Fudan University in Shanghai. His current research is focused on developing novel nonlinear optical spectroscopy and microscopy tools to study biomedical problems and material sciences, including nonlinear optical microscopy, stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) microscopy and transient absorption microscopy.
