From 2010 to 2014, Senior researcher and project manager at the E-Health and Biomedical Applications Department (VICOMTech, Spain), which he joined in January 2010 after being awarded a PhD “cum laude “ in Engineering from the Institute for Process, Control and Robotics (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany). Member of the eHealth Group, Bioengineering Area, Biodonostia Health Research Institute (http://www.biodonostia.org/). He obtained his master degree in Computer Science Engineering in 2004 at the University of Salento (Lecce, Italy). In the following period (until the PhD of 3.5 years in Germany) he was researcher at High Computing Laboratory (Dept. of Engineering - University of Lecce) in the field of application of grid computing to biomedical simulation. His main research interests are in Biomedical Engineering, Virtual and Augmented reality for medicine, 3D stereo rendering on special optics (microscope), real-time and physically based simulation, optical tracking, patient registration, mono and stereo camera calibration, haptics, image processing. He is author of several international publications and he was involved directly in the EU project “CompuSurge” (Marie Curie Action FP6) and in writing and reviewing of several project proposals in European (FP7) or national frameworks.
