Video: Martin Seifert on adapting to changing laser markets

Throughout its development, Nufern has successfully adjusted its course in response to changes in the economy, new ownership and new capabilities.

Martin Seifert is president of Nufern, a manufacturer of optical fibers, fiber lasers and amplifiers based in East Granby, CT.

Seifert is named on a number of Nufern fiber, chip, and laser patents. Prior to Nufern, he was President and GM of Lucent Specialty Fibers, a position which came as a result of his turnaround of the floundering SpecTran specialty optical fiber manufacturiAdvancing the Laser video seriesng company and its subsequent sale to Lucent. In the early 90s he started and managed a successful combined hardware and software business at Rockwell where he was also involved with merger, acquisition, and divestiture activities. Prior experience was as Chief Operating Officer of Schweitzer Engineering Labs, and manager of the specialized global high tech drives and control system service provider organization within Bucyrus-Erie. Martin holds a B.S. degree from the University of British Columbia.

In December 2009, Nufern was selected as the lead optical fiber supplier supporting the modernization and life extension of the U.S. Navy's Trident missile guidance system. Nufern has worked with the prime contractors for the modernization of the Trident guidance system, Honeywell and Draper Labs, to develop cost-effective and high-performance optical fibers for the fiber optic gyroscopes and numerous associated fibers used in other components of the inertial measurement unit and overall guidance system.
