    Optimax leaders win SBA's New York Small Business Person of the Year Award

    SPIE Member Mike Mandina and Rick Plympton, leaders of SPIE Corporate Member Optimax Systems, have been awarded the U.S. Small Business Administration's 2012 New York State Small Business Person of the Year Award. Their expertise helped advance the company from a small business founded in 1991 to one of America's Fastest Growing Private Companies in 2011, according to a survey by Inc. magazine.

    Plympton, CEO and precision lens assembly expert at Optimax, and Mandina, president and master optician, were featured in an articles in the January 2011 issue of SPIE Professional magazine.

    Each has authored several papers for SPIE proceedings, and Mandina has served on several SPIE conference program committees including the upcoming  conference on Current Developments in Lens Design and Optical Engineeering to be presented at Optics and Photonics in San Diego this August. He has also served as Symposium Chair for SPIE Optifab, held in Rochester.
