    News from SPIE Optifab 2009

SPIE Optifab concluded on Thursday 14 May 2009.

SPIE Optifab 2009 is the #1 optical fabrication event that brings manufacturers, researchers, and others in the optics industry together to check out innovations and new products.

Over 150 exhibitors and 40 speakers from across the globe (some from as far away as Germany and Japan) were at the conference. An estimated 1,700 people attended SPIE Optifab this year.

Optifab is co-sponsored by APOMA (The American Precision Optics Manufacturers Association).

The exhibition opened on Tuesday with a welcome and ribbon cutting from the two APOMA Exhibition Chairs, Jim Sydor, Sydor Optics, and Rick Nasca, Corning Tropel. Tom Battley, NY Photonics Industry Assoc. and Linda Seil, Director of Economic Development of Monroe County were also in attendance.

Optifab got some great reviews. Exhibitors were pleased with the high quality of visitors and buyers. Attendees were pleased to meet suppliers and see new technologies.

    Quotes from Optifab 2009:
     •  The presentation on “Recent advances in lightweight glass mirrors,” by James Mooney, ITT Corp. had standing room only (out of 70 chairs).

     •  “The first 2 days of non-stop conversations with qualified leads. This was a great show for QED, better than 2007.” -Don Galini, President, QED

     •   "I needed to find a way to economically meet with as many companies as possible. For the cost of one business trip, in the first day at OFB I met with potential customers that were local, regional, national and international. I accomplished my goals the first day." —Gene Dunn, Panasonic

     •  "The show is going very well. I am surprised the floor is as active as it is given the economy. Even discussions with current customers have resulted in interest with our other products.” —Marlene Deily, Promotions Manager, Schott North America, Inc., Advanced Optics

SPIE Optifab is back Rochester in 2011

SPIE would like to express its deepest appreciation to the symposium chairs, conference chairs, program committees, and session chairs who have so generously given of their time and advice to make this symposium possible.
