Abstract
In this work we review the implementation of phase-only diffraction gratings on phase-only liquid-crystal spatial light modulators for full amplitude, phase, and polarization control. First, we review designs of continuous phase profiles that generate arbitrary number of diffraction orders with customized relative intensity and phase. Then we extend the technique to consider their application to generate polarization diffraction gratings, by combining arbitrary phase gratings affecting orthogonal polarizations. We show how these gratings can be experimentally produced with liquid-crystal spatial light modulators.
