Adaptive wave guiding with inductive-shunted piezoelectric transducer array
This paper reports on the design, synthesis, and experimental validation of an adaptive waveguiding metasurface capable of steering incident elastic waves. The proposed metasurface is comprised of arrayed piezoelectric transducers with inductive shunts. By carefully tuning the values of integrated circuit elements, the electrical resonance of circuit can be adjusted to shift the phase velocity of the incident elastic wave. By tailoring the electrical tunings of parallel unit cells, a phase-shift gradient can be generated, facilitating anomalous refraction and enabling other unique waveguiding behaviors. The proposed research places emphasis on experimental validation of the metasurface structure and accompanying wave guiding behaviors.
