Profile Summary

I obtained my Bachelor's degrees in Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Mechanical Engineering from Middle East Technical University. I recently got my Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Currently, I am pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Electrical & Computer Engineering at UIUC as well. For the last three years, I have been working mainly on photonics, acoustics, and electro-optics as a graduate research assistant at UIUC. My first project was to realize a non-magnetic integrated optical isolator at 780 nm that is an important wavelength for atomic clock applications. For that purpose, I researched all potential material platforms to realize acousto-optic isolators and conducted feasibility analysis by doing necessary interdisciplinary modeling. I finally came up with LiNbO3 and AlN/SiNx materials as candidates and optimized the necessary cleanroom fabrication process to realize these devices at UIUC. After four months of optimization, I successfully fabricated my integrated isolators. Meanwhile, I also built an experimental setup to test the devices and automated this setup by using MATLAB. After seven runs of fabrication and many devices testing, I obtained very good results and was able to realize an integrated isolator not only at 780 nm but at different wavelengths as well. I published my work at one of the top photonics journals (Nature Photonics) and gave presentations at multiple conferences. As a second project, I proposed and worked on electro-optic broadband optical isolators by using large nonlinear coefficients of LiNbO3 In this project, I tried to enhance the bandwidth of my previous optical isolator architecture by using a traveling wave modulator design. I have presented my results at CLEO 2022, and I am currently working towards the journal paper.
