Profile Summary

Dr. Nicholas Booth Ph.D. Director of Research and Development, DisperSolar & Program Manager, Spectral Molecular Imaging, is the inventor of numerous optomechanical and microfluidic systems currently under development he earned his B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne (UK) in 1993, his M.Sc. in Surface Science and Engineering from Loughborough University (UK) in 1994 and his Ph.D. in Physics from Warwick University (UK) in 1999. He was a senior research associate in the department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Houston where he was responsible for the design and development of a novel phase-shifting interferometer used to characterize non-linearities during rapid crystal growth from solution in real time. During this project he demonstrated methods to modify solution flow within small channels of a compact crystallization chamber to enhance the quality and speed of production of solution-grown crystals and developed prototype space-flight hardware for NASA. Prior to joining SMI he was Director of Research and Development at Chromologic responsible for product design, testing and development of a Non-Invasive Ocular Hydration Meter for field deployment with the Army, a novel pressure monitoring chest seal for the Navy, a surgical debridement assistance device for the Army, a microfluidic blood preservation system for NASA, an optical tinnitus monitor and an oxidative stress monitor. Current projects range from creating efficient light delivery systems for high-density agriculture to developing micro-scaled hyperspectral filter pixel arrays.
