Matthew R. Ross is a researcher focused on ultrafast optical measurements of complex systems for over 20 years. Starting with undergraduate work related to pump-probe "experiment-in-the-loop" machine learning at the University of Michigan towards a B.S. in Physics in 2004. Following an internship at Los Alamos National Labs on nonlinear frequency generation in structured fibers, Matt earned a M.S. in Physics at Georgia Institute of Technology. Returning to the University of Michigan, Matt focused on ultrafast multidimensional spectroscopy enabled by active pulse shaping techniques towards his PhD. in Applied Physics (2012). In post-doctoral work at the University of Washington, Matt added high-fluence x-ray to his pump-probe expertise while organizing experiments at the ALS, BESSY II, and LCLS. In 2015, he joined Corning Incorporated focusing on ultrafast time-resolved metrology and fundamental studies of nonlinear optics and laser damage in transparent, brittle materials.
