Profile Summary

Daryl R. Myers. B S Applied Mathematics;1970; University Of Colorado School Of Engineering. Daryl spent four years in the U.S. Army, as a Russian Linguist and four years at the Smithsonian Institution Radiation Biology Laboratory. He joined the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in 1978. Daryl has more than 35 years experience in optical and solar radiation calibration and measurements. His work supports solar radiometric needs of renewable energy technologies. He is a member of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) committees G03 on Weathering and Durability and E-44 on Solar, Geothermal, and Alternative Energy, the CIE-USA (International Lighting Commission) Division 2 on measurement of radiation, and the Council for Optical Radiation Measurements. Daryl is past president (2005-2007) of the Council for Optical Radiation Measurements, and editor of the CORM newsletter, Optical Radiation News. From 1999 to 2001 he worked with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Earth Observing Systems project and the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology on ground based solar radiation monitoring network data to validate satellite derived solar fluxes. He helped develop the 1961 to 1991 National Solar Radiation Database (NSRDB) for the US, and the 1991-2005 upgrade to the NSRDB. Daryl helped develop multiple national and international conferences on solar radiation modeling and measurements. He has two best paper awards (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, 1988; American Society or Mechanical Engineers, 2002), and a Department of Energy Outstanding Mentor Award (2003). He has produced over 100 conference papers and other publications, and 20 peer reviewed articles.
