Optics and AI: Boundless Synergies for a Limitless Future
29 January 2025 • 1:15 PM - 2:30 PM PST | Moscone Center, Expo Stage, Hall DE (Exhibit Level)
Synergies between optics and artificial intelligence have the power to reshape the modern world. In optics, AI algorithms are used to enhance image processing techniques, leading to sharper and clearer images in fields like medical imaging, astronomy, and microscopy. These algorithms also aid in the interpretation of optical data, extracting meaningful insights from vast datasets in applications ranging from remote sensing to autonomous vehicles. But optics themselves are vital to the growth of AI. Optical computing greatly accelerates AI training, enabling the development of larger and more complex models while reducing the time (and thus power) required to develop these models. Optical interconnects enable rapid data exchange between processors, storage units, and accelerators, offering significant advantages in this regard over traditional copper-based interconnects and thus facilitating the parallel processing required for training complex AI models with increased energy efficiency and scalability. In the future, as optics enables AI models to grow in complexity and scale, AI will drive innovation in optical product design and development, unlocking untapped design spaces through sophisticated design tools and real-time performance predictions. In this industry panel, Sanjay Gangadhara from Ansys will sit down with senior leaders from across the industry to discuss how synergies between optics and AI promise to unlock new frontiers in imaging, sensing, and data analysis that will shape the future of technology and science.
