Enacted as part of the US CHIPS and Science Act, the Tech Hubs program will supercharge technology development activities in the United States. These regional centers of excellence unite a diverse consortia collaborating to develop and deliver critical technologies to the commercial marketplace. The effort extends beyond technology to build a sustainable, scalable infrastructure including educational programs, workforce development and private investment. In all 31 centers were designated as Tech Hubs in October 2023, and in July 2024, the first investment, exceeding $500M, was made in 12 of these centers. In this session, representatives from 3 Hubs closely aligned with photonics will share their stories, explain their goals and discuss the opportunities for the optics and photonics community to engage with them.
