Hey Students, Did You Know?

As a student member of SPIE, there are special benefits just for you. Keep reading, and you may just discover a benefit you didn't know about.

SPIE is expanding its Visiting Lecturer Program, recruiting more top lecturers than ever before. The program makes $800 available to each student or regional chapter to bring a speaker to your next chapter event. Check out the website at spie.org/Membership/vlp, to see the list of great speakers available.
Chapter Officer Travel Grants help student leaders attend the Optics & Photonics symposium. Believe it or not, only about 60% of student chapters end up taking advantage of this funding source.
No student chapter at your school? As a student member, you can still apply for a travel contingency grant to present your paper at an SPIE event.
SPIE Student Services is expanding its student networking offerings this year to include more meetings. "Lunch with the Experts" brings symposium and conference chairs, government researchers, corporate leaders, entrepreneurs, and even Nobel laureates together to share informal networking lunches with students.
Other "Lunch with the Experts" gatherings will occur at the following SPIE events: Medical Imaging; Microlithgraphy; Smart Structures & Materials/NDE; Photonics Europe; Defense & Security; Astronomical Telescopes and Instrumentation; Great Lakes Photonics; Optics & Photonics; Optics East; Photonics Asia; and Microelectronics, MEMS, and Nanotechnology.
SPIE student members significantly impact education and public outreach efforts for optics education around the world. Students from nearly 30 student chapters took part in hosting or creating outreach events in 2005 for pre-college students in their communities, bringing the wonder of optics to hundreds of young students.
