Video: Jeff Hecht visits the historic laser display at SPIE Photonics West
The accomplished author on lasers and optics explains the significance of some of the items in the collection.
Jeff Hecht has written about lasers, optics, and fiber optics for more than 30 years, and has published 11 books. He was a featured speaker at SPIE Photonics West 2010 as part of the Advancing the Laser celebration. One of his presentations there was "How Theodore Maiman Made the First Laser" at the SPIE Fellows luncheon.
Hecht has been writing about lasers since 1974. He is the author of Beam -- The Race to Make the Laser; Beam Weapons -- The Next Arms Race; Understanding Lasers; Understanding Fiber Optics; City of Light -- The Story of Fiber Optics; Laser Pioneers; The Laser Guidebook; Optics -- Light for a New Age; and Laser -- Supertool of the 80s. He has written extensively for industry publications, including as managing editor of Laser Focus magazine, as a cofounder and contributing editor to Lasers & Optronics, and as a contributing editor for Laser Focus World. He also writes regularly for New Scientist magazine, and has contributed articles to SPIE Professional.
