David Bannon: Hyperspectral, multispectral technologies find commercial applications
First developed for military use, hyperspectral imaging now brings in-line inspection of foods and consumer products to new levels of accuracy. Its applications extend beyond the production line as well, says Headwall's CEO
David Bannon is co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Headwall Photonics (Fitchburg, MA), responsible for shaping the company's vision and corporate direction. He has positioned Headwall as a worldwide provider of instrument-based spectral sensing solutions that touch many aspects of daily life. From precision agriculture and industrial food inspection to homeland security and military reconnaissance, Bannon has helped bring the science of spectral imaging to new application areas and geographical regions while developing new and affordable product categories.
Headwall Photonics designs and manufactures imaging spectrometers and spectral instrumentation for industrial, commercial and government markets, customized for specific applications. In early 2015, Headwall partnered with Ocean Spray, the leading processor and provider of cranberry products, to test innovative technologies targeted at providing Ocean Spray with the technology necessary to improve product quality and agricultural yield.
Bannon is a long-time member of SPIE and has served as chair of several conferences, including Next-Generation Spectroscopic Technologies at SPIE Defense, Security and Sensing 2015.
