About the Instructor
Dr. Andrew Brown joined SPIE in 2008 as the Senior Director for Global Business Development. Prior to SPIE Andrew spent 11 years at Aculight Corporation, a laser development and manufacturing company where he held positions ranging from Principal Scientist to Marketing Manager and, for the last 5 years, Director of Business Development. During his tenure at Aculight the company grew significantly expanding in technical areas such as fiber lasers and in medical, commercial and defense markets. Prior to Aculight, Andrew held leadership positions at Falcon Medical, a medical instrumentation start up company, and STI Optronics (formerly Spectra Technology, Inc.) a laser research and development company.
Andrew was educated in Scotland earning his Ph.D. in Physics from St. Andrews University, MSc (with distinction) in Optoelectronics and Laser Devices from Herriot Watt University, and BSc (1st class) in Physics from St. Andrews University. In addition to his technical background and career, Andrew earned a certificate in non-profit management from the University of Washington and has served as Executive Director of a non-profit adult literacy organization in Washington State.
