Newport Spectra-Physics Supports Student Travel

Newport Spectra-Physics continues to support student participation at SPIE events through the Newport Spectra-Physics Research Excellence Travel Awards.

The company generously donated $15,000 this year to help students travel to the two largest SPIE events: Photonics West and Optics & Photonics.

The grant is open to any full-time student who has a paper accepted for presentation at either symposium. Recipients are selected based on both the quality of the original research described in their submitted paper and financial need.

This year the Photonics West award recipients were: Majid Badieirostami, Georgia Institute of Technology; Xiaoxi Chen, Zhejiang University; Brian Goldberg, Massachusetts Institute of Technology; Mingjun Huang, University of Notre Dame; Agnella Izzo, Northwestern University; Adam Jones, North Dakota State University; Di Liang, University of Notre Dame; Seyoung Moon, Yonsei University; Tyler Ralston, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; Yang Wang, Lehigh University; Dane Wheeler, University of Notre Dame; Ivanna Yarnyovska, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv; and Jin Zhang, Illinois Institute of Technology.

And the Optics & Photonics 2006 recipients were: Mariana Alfaro, Centro de Investigaciones en Óptica; Siu Wai Chan, Universite d'Angers; Emmanouil Darakis, University of Strathclyde; Jirar Helou, University of Delaware; Maria de la Paz Hernandez-Garay, INAOE; Moises Jezzini, Tecnólogico de Monterrey/ITESM; Minjoung Kyoung, The Pennsylvania State University; Peng Li, The Pennsylvania State University; Shaopeng Li, University of East Anglia; Sameer Mahajan, Vanderbilt University; Karan Mohan, Old Dominion University; David Serrano Garcia, Tecnólogico de Monterrey/ITESM; Lian Wang, Northwestern University; Jing Zhao, Northwestern University.
