Free Booklet on Energy

The Board on Energy and Environmental Systems of the National Research Council recently published a 32-page booklet, What You Need to Know About Energy.

The free booklet is written for a general audience and describes America's current and projected energy needs as well as options that will likely play a role in America's energy future. While focused on U.S. energy issues, the information is relevant to anyone concerned with world energy consumption.

A chapter devoted to emerging technologies, for instance, discusses how the U.S. Department of Energy has engaged other governments, international industry representatives, and the research community to develop a new generation of electricity generation systems, some using solar power, and motor vehicles.  

SPIE is helping to promote innovation and conservation of energy by distributing the booklet free to its members.
