SPIE 2016 biophotonics meeting in Australia 16-19 October

logo for SPIE Biophotonics AustralasiaBiophotonics innovators from around the world will gather in Adelaide, Australia, 16-19 October for SPIE Biophotonics Australasia.

The meeting is intended to connect scientists in academia, government, and industry to share the latest research in neurophotonics, advanced medical imaging, fiber-optic sensors, fluorescent nanomaterials for diagnostics and treatments, optical coherence tomography (OCT) and other applications of light in biological systems.

The program will feature sessions for industry, six plenary speakers, two poster sessions, and more than 130 papers presented in three tracks, one each for biophotonics, medical imaging, and fiber sensing.

Plenary speakers are:

  • SPIE member Richard Levenson of University of California, Davis Medical Center (USA)
  • Rainer Heintzmann of Leibniz Institute of Photonic Technology (Germany) and Institute of Physical Chemistry (Germany)
  • Chris Xu, director of undergraduate studies at the School of Applied and Engineering Physics at Cornell University (USA)
  • George Paxinos of Neuroscience Research Australia (Australia)
  • Brett Bouma from Harvard Medical School (USA)
  • Yves De Koninck of Laval University and the Quebec Mental Health Institute (Canada)

Symposium chairs for SPIE Biophotonics Australasia are Mark R. Hutchinson, professor at University of Adelaide, and SPIE member Ewa M. Goldys, a professor at Macquarie University (Australia). Hutchinson is director and Goldys is deputy director of the Australian Research Council’s Centre for Nanoscale BioPhotonics.

Conference papers accepted for publication will be published in the Proceedings of SPIE and available via the SPIE Digital Library.

The Proceedings are indexed in Web of Science, Scopus, Ei Compendex, Inspec, Google Scholar, Astrophysical Data System (ADS), DeepDyve, ReadCube, CrossRef, and other scholarly indexes and are widely accessible to research organizations, conference attendees, and individual researchers.

Full-time students who plan to present an accepted paper at SPIE Biophotonics Australasia may submit an application for an SPIE student author travel grant by 8 August.
