SPIE Laser Damage 2012

SPIE Laser Damage has become a highly regarded resource for the exchange of information on materials for high-power/high-energy lasers.

Logo for SPIE Laser DamageSPIE Laser Damage, the 44th annual symposium on Optical Materials for High-Power Lasers, will have a mini symposium this year on laser-induced plasma interactions, a roundtable discussion on surface vs. bulk-damage mechanisms to kick off the week’s activities, and a laser damage competition.

The event, the leading forum for the exchange of information on the physics and technology of materials for high-power/high-energy lasers, takes place 23-26 September at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Boulder, CO.

Invited presentations include:

• Defects in oxide thin films, SPIE member Carmen Menoni (USA)

• Mirrors for ultrashort pulses, SPIE member Vladimir Pervak (Germany)

• Mechanisms of ultrafast laser-induced ionization and damage in dielectrics, Stéphane Guizard (France)

• Coatings of oxide composites, Lars Jensen (Germany)

This year’s laser damage competition will help determine the current laser damage resistance of Brewster angle thin-film plate polarizing beam splitters. Results from participants will be shared with attendees.
