Materion’s Diamond-Like Carbon Coatings
Diamond-like carbon coating (DLC) is a class of amorphous carbon material that displays some of the typical properties of diamond. The coatings have unique properties such as low friction, high hardness, and high corrosion resistance. DLC applied as a coating to other materials helps them benefit from some of those properties.

This type of coating is used throughout the industry to create an extremely hard, durable surface on exposed optical elements to withstand the harshest environments such as, abrasive action from airborne particles, sea/saltwater, and engine oil/fuel or high humidity.

Our DLC coatings are applied using Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) technology which is a chemical vapor deposition process used to deposit thin films from a gas state or vapor to a solid-state on a substrate. Our coating production system is also in a clean room facility, where pollutants like dust, airborne microbes, and aerosol particles are filtered out to provide the cleanest area possible.

DLC coating complements our full in-house suite of capabilities and can be applied to a variety of substrates.
