Christophe Peroz

Christophe Peroz
Chief Display Researcher
SONY (Japan)

Christophe continues to build our spatial computing world. He began his work in France working on materials science and nanofabrication. In the US, he worked at Berkeley Lab, as the CoFounder and Director, of Nanofabrication and Photonic Devices for aBeam Technologies. At Magic Leap, he helped build the most advanced spatial computer of its time. Christophe is currently in Tokyo working on XR displays at SONY.

Making use of XR: from Gaming at Home to ICUs at Hospitals to fight COVID-19
This event occurred in the past. Click here to view.

Wearable devices like XR glasses and headsets can support medical interventions and prevent the progression of the diseases like dementia, and support patients suffering from ALS, anxiety or depression. Augmenting such headsets with sensors that capture brain activity, heart rate variability or skin conductivity can give access to discovering new biomarkers. These biomarkers help modelling, simulating, and finally offering novel datasets with physiological modalities recorded over extended periods of time on an everyday basis. Moreover, patients are often older adults, frail and reluctant to travel for complex exams in hospitals. Hence remotely deployed wearable systems offer a promising alternative to current practices. An ongoing COVID-19 pandemic only added to the burden of these patients and confirmed a need to accelerate the deployment of such systems for pre-clinical and clinical trials. In this talk we will discuss several examples of these systems as well as touching upon the use cases beyond healthcare.

The Lume Pad: 3D Lightfield at your fingertips
This event occurred in the past. Click here to view.

When did you last say wow? In this talk I will introduce the Lume Pad, the world’s first switchable 3D Lightfield tablet. It combines the entire Google Play experience in WQHD resolution with Leia’s latest 3D Lightfield experiences. Designed for commercial and creative uses, it also provides powerful consumer features such as the ability to play a wide variety of games, capture, edit and share 3D lightfield pictures, display iPhone “portrait mode” pictures in 3D or convert regular 2D pictures to 3D in one-click. We will review the Nanotechnology and Computer Vision technologies powering the device and present key applications of mobile Lightfields that we think will drive mass adoption.

Laser Beam Scanning: The Ideal Solution for AR Wearable Applications
This event occurred in the past. Click here to view.

One of the critical requirements to enable mass adoption of AR smart glasses, and generally, fashionable head-mounted-devices is the ability for all day wear and use. Some of the key requirements to achieve this objective includes light weight, high brightness, low power, good FoV and large eyebox, in addition to low latency and persistency. LBS based micro-displays based on a MEMS Micromirror architecture are ideally suited to deliver on these, and other requirements. In this talk we will discuss the prototypical architecture of an LBS based system for near-to-eye display, review the key characteristics and attributes of such systems, and highlight the high degree of flexibility afforded to the end product or device. Finally, we will also touch upon the necessity of a holistic or systems approach for the design of such devices and the enabling ecosystem of technologies, devices and solutions needed to facilitate end product development.

Getting to the New Normal: How XR Will Shape The Future of Work
This event occurred in the past. Click here to view.

We've endured a global pandemic that has forced us to look at how we do absolutely everything. We've learned quite a lot, but also realized that we will not be going back to the way things were. Beyond simply improving safety, remote work tools and productivity, and building socially-distanced workstations, we have a much bigger opportunity to leverage XR to create a better version of our lives as a whole. We could even model out this Brave New World in VR, then create it IRL. Now the question is, if you could create your perfect work/life balance, what would it look like? Let's write a new story.

Aspheric Lens, Finel Lens, Hybrid Diffractive Optical Components for VR/AR
This event occurred in the past. Click here to view.

Augmented reality will be the next big thing in human life. It has been over 10 years since I first start worked at Microsoft Hololens. I built Hololens AR glass from incubation to market. There are few of AR display technologies for AR glasses. They all have strong and weakness on size, weight, color, uniformity, MTF, efficiency and cost. In this presentation I will present High Index diffractive waveguide with miniature display engine to enable consumer version AR glasses. Goertek focuses on aspherical lens, Freeform lens, pancake lens, DLP projector, LCOS AR projector, Micro-LED AR projector, MEMs AR projector, diffractive waveguide optics, Nano-structure wafer imprint, AR waveguide manufacturing, AR glasses and VR glasses system integration.
