| Kathleen Richardson |
SPIE Fellow and Board of Directors member Kathleen Richardson was installed in October as 2014-2015 President of the American Ceramic Society. Richardson is a professor of optics and materials science and engineering at CREOL, the College of Optics and Photonics, University of Central Florida (UCF), and cofounder and chief technology officer of IRradiance Glass.
At UCF she runs the Glass Processing and Characterization Laboratory, where her team examines the role of structure-property relationships in bulk, planar, and fiber forms of a range of glassy optical materials. Her group has extensively researched materials for precision-molded optics, non-oxide glasses in chem-bio planar sensors, next-generation integrated opto-electronic chip design, and nanocomposite glass ceramic materials for advanced detection and gradient index optics.
In August, Richardson visited the SPIE Yonsei University Student Chapter and the lab of SPIE Fellow and Board of Directors member Seung-Han Park, and gave a talk on "Progress on mid-infrarerd multi-material on-chip planar photonics" at the Optics Society of Korea annual meeting on Jeju Island.
