SPIE Senior Member Ni-Bin Chang receives Royal Academy of Engineering award 18 January 2014 SPIE Senior Member Ni-Bin Chang, a professor at University of Central Florida (USA) and editor of the SPIE Journal of Applied Remote Sensing (JARS), will receive the Distinguished Visiting Fellowship Award sponsored by the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAENG) in London in February. RAENG honored Chang with the award for his collaboration with University of Bristol engineering professor Dawei Han in promoting next-generation environmental remote sensing and informatics platform design and stormwater management technologies. Chang will give presentations on his remote-sensing research at the University of Bristol and Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh while in the UK to accept the award. Chang, who received the "Bridging the Gap Award" from the UK's Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council in 2013, is the current program director for the Cyber-enabled Sustainability Science and Engineering Program and the Hydrologic Sciences Program at the National Science Foundation in the USA. Chang is a professor in the Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering Department at UCF. He received his master's and PhD degrees in the field of environmental systems engineering from Cornell University in 1989 and 1991, respectively, and his BS degree in 1983 from National Chiao-Tung University, Taiwan. He is the chair of the Remote Sensing and Modeling of Ecosystems for Sustainability conference at SPIE Optics + Photonics, to be held in San Diego, Calif. (USA) in August. He also serves on program committees for the Data Compression, Communications, and Processing conference at SPIE DSS 2014 and the Earth Resources and Environmental Remote Sensing/GIS Applications conference at SPIE Remote Sensing 2014. He became editor-in-chief of the Journal of Applied Remote Sensing on 1 January 2014. More information: |
