New photonics cluster in Montana to be at SPIE Photonics West exhibition

09 January 2014

A newly established US photonics cluster, the Montana Photonics Industry Alliance (MPIA), features nine member companies that will be exhibiting at SPIE Photonics West 4-6 February.

The Montana Photonics Industry Alliance is a hub for Montana's optics and photonics companies, entrepreneurs, laboratories, and universities to commercialize, grow, and sustain globally leading organizations that create high-quality jobs and economic opportunity in the state of Montana.

SPIE Fellow Joseph Shaw, director of the Optical Technology Center at Montana State University, is one of nine board members. Lawrence Johnson, the founder of ILX Lightwave Corp., a Newport company, is president of the new photonics cluster.

MPIA members exhibiting at SPIE Photonics West are SPIE Corporate Members Newport/ILX Lightwave, Quantel USA, and FLIR/Scientific Materials as well as Altos Photonics, Bridger Photonics, Lattice Materials, Quantum Composers, Resonon, and Wavelength Electronics.

The Photonics West exhibition is a premier photonics and laser event with more than 1,225 companies at the Moscone Center. It is the flagship event to find the latest products, tools, and applications for photonics research or business needs.
