While there Giger and 2018 AAPM President, Bruce R. Thomadsen, affirmed the SPIE and AAPM collaborative efforts in the Grand Challenges, policy and advocacy in Washington DC especially as it pertains to the Cancer Moonshot, and working together on issues such as diversity.

The two societies continue to enjoy discussions and efforts among their members on various aspects of photonics and optics in medical imaging and radiation therapy in research, education, regulatory, and clinical care.
