SPIE Member Clémence Jollivet is CREOL student of the year 01 April 2014SPIE Student Member Clémence Jollivet, a PhD student at the Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers (CREOL) in the College of Optics & Photonics at University of Central Florida, was selected as the student of the year during the university's 2014 Industrial Affiliates Day. Jollivet received the award on 7 March for her thesis "Specialty Fibers for Novel Fiber Lasers and Devices." Optics industry affiliates at CREOL, including SPIE, gathered at this year's Affiliates Day to focus on advances in optics and photonics. The two-day event included invited speakers, a panel discussion on photonics education, a poster session, technical exhibits, lab tours, and short courses.
Jollivet was born in Bordeaux, France, and received her BS in physics and chemistry and her MS in physics from the University of Bordeaux in 2007 and 2009, respectively. Her PhD research focuses on the design, fabrication, characterization, and applications of specialty fibers. Specifically, she is developing advanced mode-analysis techniques and monolithic large-mode area and multicore fiber lasers. Jollivet has presented at SPIE DSS and SPIE Photonics West. She has authored or co-authored six journal publications and 11 conference proceedings.
