Five SPIE Fellows named Fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science
Since 1874, the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) has recognized individuals for their extraordinary achievements across scientific disciplines, and by virtue of their meritorious contributions, elected these members to Fellow of the Association. This year AAAS elected 416 new Fellows including five SPIE Fellows.
The cohort is made up of nominees who may have made significant contributions in research, teaching, technology, services to professional societies, administration in academe, industry and government, and communicating and interpreting science to the public. Fellows are elected annually by the AAAS Council from the list of approved nominations from the Section Steering Groups.
SPIE Fellows Jinsong Leng of the Harbin Institute of Technology (China), Jingyu Lin of Texas Tech University (USA), and Aydogan Ozcan of the University of California, Los Angeles (USA) were elected by the Steering Group for the Engineering section. SPIE Fellow Robert Boyd of the University of Ottawa in Canada and the University of Rochester in the United States was elected by the Steering Group for the section on Industrial Science and Technology. And SPIE Fellow Samuel Achilefu of the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis (USA) was recognized by the Steering Group for the section on Medical Sciences.
