    Mark Clampin named director of Goddard Astrophysics Science

    Mark ClampinSPIE Fellow Mark Clampin has been named director of the Astrophysics Science Division at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, the space agency has announced.

    Dr. Clampin, who serves as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Astronomical Telescopes, Instruments, and Systems (JATIS), published by SPIE, has served as the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) Observatory Project Scientist at Goddard since 2003. From 2012 to 2014 he also served as Chief Technologist of the Cosmic Origins and Physics of the Cosmos program offices. Last year, he participated in the development of the Advanced Large Aperture Space Telescope (ATLAST) concept as Senior Scientist.

    He has authored numerous publications for SPIE, and chaired several SPIE conferences on space telescopes and instrumentation.

    Clampin is the inaugural editor of JATIS, which launched in late 2014.
