Valery Tuchin |
SPIE Fellow Valery Tuchin was awarded the Chime Prize of Hubei Province on 29 September at the Chinese National Day celebration gala in China.
Established in 1994, the Chime Prize of Hubei Province awards experts who has made great contribution to the economic and social development in Hubei Province. In 2014, 15 experts won the prize, 4 of them are from international universities.
Tuchin holds the Optics and Biophotonics Chair and is Director of Research-Educational Institute of Optics and Biophotonics at Saratov State University. He is the head of the Laboratory on Laser Diagnostics of Technical and Living Systems, Inst. of Precise Mechanics and Control, Russian Academy of Sciences.
Tuchin's research focuses on biomedical optics, biophotonics and laser medicine, nonlinear dynamics of laser and biophysical systems, and physics of optical and laser measurements. He is an expert in scientific research and platform construction at the Wuhan National Laboratory for Optoelectronics (WNLO), where he has help create a bridge of bilateral cooperation between the WNLO and the Hubei Province, and the WNLO's partners abroad.
The holder of more than 25 patents, Tuchin has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed papers and books. He chairs two conferences in the BiOS symposium at SPIE Photonics West -- Optical Coherence Tomography and Coherence Domain Optical Methods in Biomedicine, and Dynamics and Fluctuations in Biomedical Photonics-- and serves on the program committees of others.
