From the ancient Arab science of light and vision, to the present nonlinear optics and photonics with its many applications that are changing our daily lives, we have experienced many decades of amazing developments. Despite the major achievements during these decades, there has been almost no visible recognition of the female scientist - up until very recently.
Let us use the International Year of Light 2015 to celebrate, week in and week out, the thousands of capable, talented women who through their commitment and professionalism are making a difference in the field of light and light-based technologies around the world, and imagine the impact they will have on generations to come!
