Paper Abstract
Fiber optic couplers have been developed with optical performance specifications that are close to the theoretical achievable limits. However, the development of devices packaged to withstand excessive shock and vibration levels encountered in military and some industrial environments has yet to be fully realized. In this paper details will be given of a new packaging concept for the ruggedization of 2X2 and star fiber couplers that show improvements in the pull out retention force in addition to the shock and vibration performance.
