Paper Abstract
In this paper, we discuss the Navy specified fiber outer diameter(OD) and connector/ferrule inner diameter(ID) tightened tolerances, required maximum insertion loss per connection, and use of one ferrule termini size with both multimode and singlemode fibers. By briefly discussing these areas, we intend to provide pertinent information regarding the rationale for the decided Navy requirements, trade-offs involved, and related items which support the development of singlemode, short haul, highly concatenated, shipboard systems.
