Generation Of Random Scenes With Controlled Statistics

Paper Abstract

We consider the problem of generating a random field of numbers (a random, digital scene) with specified spectral and spatial statistics. In particular we specify the amplitude spectrum Ag(f) and the first order probability distribution p(g) of the scene. When the latter is Gaussian, the problem has a simple, well-known solution. We interpret this solution in an algorithm. For a general p(g) the problem is more difficult. We present an iterative technique as a possible solution. We also describe some applications of the scenes in visual and objective measurements of optical systems.
