Paper Abstract
This paper describes selected work in the area of fiber optic smart structures performed by the author and his
colleagues at McDonnell Douglas, Blue Road Research and Columbia Gorge Research over the past 25 years. It is
intended to provide an overview of some of the developments in the field and how it evolved over this time span.
Application areas that will be addressed include aerospace, civil structures and composite materials.
