Paper Abstract
The effectiveness of semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) in restoring the power loss in the transmission in Optical
Chaos Communications Systems has been experimentally studied. In-line optical amplification is shown to be effective
in restoring the received optical power to enable successful message extraction at an authorised receiver. However, the
in-line optical amplification can not totally compensate for the deterioration of the quality of the chaos synchronization
and decoded message, which eavesdropper alert can be achieved by measuring the cross correlation coefficient.
