A study of tension control in looperless hot rolling process using SVR

Paper Abstract

Final products of hot rolling process are produced to the form of hot coil. The quality of hot coil to be produced is decided by tension control of finishing rolling in hot rolling process. The fluctuation of the strip tension in conventional hot rolling process is controlled through a looper located in between stands. But, the looper can cause a motor trip and tension hunting in hot rolling process, therefore, alternative method is essential. Hence, in this paper, the mathematical modeling of tension mechanism is implemented to estimate tension and to control tension using the proposed SVR algorithm without looper in hot rolling process. Also, results of the simulation show a performance of estimation and a possibility of tension control using SVR technique.
