Automatic data processing of speckle fringe pattern

Paper Abstract

We present an automatic procedure, with digital image analyzer for measuring displacements on specimen using speckle method. Speckle fringe patterns are projected on a translucent blackening screen. In order to improve the camera sensitivity and the fringe contrast, we eliminate the central order and we attenuate the blurring to increase the usable part of the image. Two programs are presented :

- the first Automatic Data Processing (ADP1) uses a one dimensional Fourier transform applied on signals extracted from the image. ADP1 creates a longer signal by joining series of parallel lines together in order to reduce errors. Manual and numerical results are identical.

- the second Automatic Data Processing (ADP2) utilizes a two dimensional Fourier transform coupled with an appropriate spectral interpolation. This procedure is less sensitive to the image quality. So, non detectable manual displacement can be obtained by this process.
