Paper Abstract

For DWDM networks, optical burst switching has been proposed as a combination of the best of optical circuit switching and optical packet switching while avoiding their shortcomings. One of the most challenging aspects of implementing burst switching DWDM networks is the design of data channel scheduling algorithms for core routers. In this paper, we present a channel scheduling algorithm, discuss its hardware implementation issues, and propose a hardware design.
