Paper Abstract
The properties of the laser active medium were investigated using a drift chamber, and the effect of gas additives on the laser power is evaluated. The transport coefficient drift velocity is measured in carbon-dioxide-laser gas mixtures. The dependence of the drift velocity on the applied electric field is very similar for the different gas compositions in the positive column of the discharge, and a semi-empirical formula is given. The influence of gas additives is investigated (1) a selective energy reduction due to elastic impacts with Ar, (2) striking voltage reduction by adding C4H10 to the laser gas.
