Spectral neutron fluence produced by the interaction of charged particles with solid state targets (En > 1 MeV)

Paper Abstract

'Monoenergetic' neutron fields are needed for determining the energy-dependent response of neutron dosimeters and detectors. The spectral neutron fluence is experimentally determined by time-of-flight spectroscopy with well- specified NE-213 scintillation detectors. These experimentally determined distributions are compared with calculations simulating the neutron production, attenuation and scattering processes in the target as well as energy and angle straggling of the impinging charged particles. Moreover, the diffusion of reactive nuclei into the backing is accounted for.
