Non-equilibrium thermodynamics of spin-caloritronic effects

Paper Abstract

In this paper we describe a non-equilibrium thermodynamic approach to spin Seebeck and spin Peltier effects in bilayers composed by a ferromagnetic insulator and a spin Hall metal. In particular we will show the existence and the experimental verification of the reciprocal relation between the two effects, in which both coefficients turn out to be related to two main intrinsic parameters: the absolute thermo-magnetic power coefficient of the ferromagnetic insulator ΕM and the spin Hall angle of the metal θSH . It is also shown how the ratio between the thickness and the intrinsic diffusion length of each layer can influence the measured effects.
