Sensing behavior of smart CFRP bar embedded with FBG and its application in stay cables

Paper Abstract

A smart twisted type carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) bar was developed with FBG embedment during the manufacturing process. Sensing behaviors of the smart bar under static and fatigue loading were tested. The results show that it retains a good sensing performance after 200 million cycles. Among application, smart steel strand and smart stay cable were designed. And tensile experiments of such smart structures were carried out, showing good performance.
