Paper Abstract

The transmission resonances occurring in the extraordinary light transmission through metallic films with subwavelength holes can be used to tailor the spectral transmission properties of periodic slit and hole arrays. In this work we study with rigorous numerical simulations the corresponding changes in the coherence properties of electromagnetic fields transmitted through periodic subwavelength metallic gratings with narrow linear slits. Our numerical results show that by choosing suitable parameters for the grating, the degree of coherence of the beam can be significantly increased. The studied approach offers new possibilities to alter the coherence properties of fields using nanophotonic components.
