Paper Abstract
We examine the accuracy of an approximate equation that is used to calculate IR multiple attenuated total reflection pATR spectra from the real and imaginary refractive index spectra, n(v) and k(v). Under typical experimental conditions, the results for benzene, methanol and water show that the approximate equation frequently gives errors greater than 10%.
