Paper Abstract

This paper deals with a new algorithm for binarization of digital gray levels images. This algorithm might be useful for all applications consisting on the interpretation of a binarized image. Indeed, our algorithm has been designed with two main constraints : - fast binarization : we wanted to avoid every computings of averages and global repartitions of grey levels that often lead to heavy algorithms. - "good looking" binarization : human vision needs a compromise between gray levels and space frequencies resolutions in order to interprate properly an image. Therefore, we did not try to build an algorithm that does not lose too much information. But we wanted the algorithm not to lose information used by human vision. First, we give a description of some human vision properties. Second, we propose a simple method that binarizes an image and takes into account the constraints mentionned before. We give a detailed description of our algorithm, insisting on the easiness of computing implementation. Then, we show simulation results on real data.
